How we keep your dog safe on every walk

Sup Dawgs! Back again with the third edition of the Dawg Blog! It’s been awhile since our last post. The goal was to publish two blog posts a month, but alas, as many of you know, life gets in the way 😆. I’m happy to be back with another one for your reading pleasure!
In this newest post we will discuss something of supreme importance to all dog owners who hire us or who are thinking about hiring us, and that is how we keep your dog safe on every walk. So, without further ado, let’s get into it!
- Learning about your dog’s personality and triggers: The first step in keeping your pup safe is getting to know them! During the meet and greet, we ask a series of questions about them to help us learn how to best keep them safe. For instance, we need to know how they are with other dogs, their triggers, scavenging habits, food allergies, etc. Whether they get startled by loud noises and try to get away from them, they lunge at scooters, skateboards, bicyclists, motorcycles, or they enjoy hunting rodents, it’s important for us to know these things in order to provide them with the safest walk possible. The information gathered during the initial meet and greet is then shared with your pup’s walker, or walkers, who review it prior to their first walk together.
- Proper leash and harness checks: Also during the meet and greet process we carefully inspect your dog’s harness and leash to make sure they are in good working condition, free from serious fraying or any potential weak points and that the harness fits snugly and comfortably. This is an important part in keeping your dog safe, and a properly fitting harness is integral to keeping your pup secure during walks!
- Being mentally present with your pup on walks: Walkers are trained to be mentally present and aware of their surroundings at all times. Glass, poop, bones, food items, rat poison, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, children and other dogs are all things they are constantly scanning for. If they have earbuds in, they are instructed to keep the volume low enough to allow them to hear what’s going on around them at all times. While they may have to respond to the occasional text message, you will not see Dog Dudes constantly looking at their phones while they are in the field. This point is heavily emphasized during their training!
- Genuine love and affection for your pup and pawsitive energy: All Dog Dudes are real dog lovers, well compensated, treated with respect, genuinely enjoy their job and want to be with your dog! This directly translates into the quality of care your pup receives on each and every walk. By being treated with respect and well compensated, we cultivate a culture where walkers are happy to be walking with your pup and they want to provide the highest quality service they can, meaning they will show your dog genuine love and affection, be mentally present with them and make sure they are safe and comfortable!
These are the ways The Dog Dude keeps your pup safe on each and every walk! Being trusted to help care for your dog is an honor and a privilege we do not take for granted. Many of us are pet owners ourselves or grew up with pets, so we know how important it is that they are properly cared for, loved and kept safe!
If you are one of our current or past clients, thank you for being part of The Dog Dude Family, we truly value and care about you and your pup! If not, and you’re looking for a quality, caring dog walker or pet sitter in Bushwick, Bed-Stuy or Ridgewood, The Dog Dude would love to help!
Well, that’s it for now! Until next time Dawgs!
Peace, Love and Pawsitivity! ✌🏼❤️🐾
